Ludhiana, December 10

Not just students but even teachers need to participate in sport activities to keep themselves healthy and fit. The Punjab Education department would organise sports meet for teachers from December 26 to 28 in Ludhiana. The trails for the same began today.

Teachers would be participating in 12 games, including table tennis, football, kho-kho, athletics and chess among others. Not only physical education teachers but teachers from other subjects would also participate in sports meet which would be organised at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and the Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan.

The move has evoked mixed response from the teachers. While some are happy with the initiative of the department others do not feel comfortable.

Sunita, a government teacher said, “ The initiative is positive but we were told only a few days ago regarding the event. If we would have been told in advance, then we would have got ample time to practice.”

Another school teacher from Jodhan village said since he is a physical education teacher he has no issues with the event.

Gagandeep, a teacher from Kheri village, added that it has been years since he played any game. “Although, I am excited but it is giving me goose bumps as I have not participated in sporting events. However, I am looking forward to it,” he said.
