LUDHIANA: The crack of dawn on Thursday witnessed fitness enthusiasts from all quarters and age groups turning up in large numbers at various parks, schools, colleges and hotels to mark the fourth International Yoga Day in the industrial town.

The crack of dawn on Thursday witnessed fitness enthusiasts from all quarters and age groups turning up in large numbers at various parks, schools, colleges and hotels to mark the fourth International Yoga Day in the industrial town. The city looked invigorating as old and young, dressed in white attire symbolising nirvana, rolled out their mats and performed various asanas. Residents vowed for the golden age by adopting Yoga in their daily lives.

DC solicits support for ‘Tandrust Punjab’

The International Yoga Day event was organised at the Government College for Boys in the association with Bharti Yog Sansthan. Ludhiana (Central) MLA Surinder Kumar Dawar and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pradeep Kumar Agrawal took part in the event. A huge gathering of local residents, students, officials, players and others actively joined the occasion. The DC solicited the people to give fulsome support to the mission Tandrust Punjab for making Ludhiana a leading district for effective implementation of the programme. He also asked the people to give a tip-off about those, who were behind food adulteration, so that strict action could be taken against them.

Yoga with patients

Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) celebrated the Yoga Day with the gathering of 150 patients along with their spouses. Various asanas, including Savasana, Tadasana, Vakara asana, Katichakra, Bajjar asana, Naadi shodan and Pranayam were demonstrated by Yoga consultants on the occasion.

Citizens practice yoga at hotels, clubs & gardens

Lions Club in collaboration with the Department of Ayush, Punjab, the district administration and National Integrated Medical Association celebrated Yoga Day here on Thursday. As many as 280 persons attended the camp and did yogic exercises.

A session on Yoga was organised at Hyatt Regency in association with Bharatiya Yog Sansthan. As many as 200 people of all age groups participated in the event.

Employees of Radisson Blu Hotel MBD and MBD Neopolis Mall celebrated Yoga Day at Espace Gym of the hotel.

People in huge numbers attended a programme organised by Brahma Kumaris at Rose Garden. It started with a rhythmic physical Yoga.

Officials of government departments not behind

The Railway mail service LD division organised a seminar at the RMS complex under the guidance of Ashok Sharma, professor of Yoga, GNE College.

The Yoga Day celebration was held at the office of the Commissioner of Customs, Customs House, Sahnewal. Customs officials along with the staff of respective custodians participated in the event.

A marathon programme was organised at the MSME Development Institute. Officials of the FICO, MSME and NSIC performed Yoga exercises during the programme.

Officials of the Income Tax Department attempted a world record by performing yoga exercises for 24 hours on the occasion of International Yoga Day.

Students high on energy

Punjab University Regional Centre organised a Yoga session by expert Rupashi Wadhawan. She explained the affect of various ‘asanas’ on different muscles of the body. Over 400 girl cadets of 3 Punjab Girls Battalion of the NCC from city schools participated in the session.

An interactive practical session on Yoga was conducted on the athletic track of Punjab Agricultural University. Around 350 participants from the university took part in the event. Experts gave practical demonstration of various yogic ‘asanas’, ‘pranayam’ and their role in wellness.
