The body of Army jawan Sreejith M.J., who was among the three soldiers killed in a militant attack in Kashmir, was laid to rest with full state and military honours at his ancestral home in Paruthipully here on Saturday.

The funeral was held on Saturday morning as hundreds of local residents and grieving relatives bid a tearful adieu to the valiant soldier.

The body of the 28-year-old jawan was brought to the village last night and placed at a local school where he had studied, to enable public to pay homage.

State Minister A.C. Moideen placed a wreath on the body on behalf of the state government and also met the bereaved family.

The District Collector and people’s representatives were among those present at the time of the funeral.

Sreejith had joined the army in 2008 and was recently transferred to Kashmir from Rajasthan, where he was working.

The jawan was supposed to visit his parents next month, his relatives said.
