6 cops hurt in clash with Sikh protesters over torn pages of holy book

As many as six policemen were injured in a clash with Sikh protesters at Buttar Kalan village in Moga district on Tuesday. 

The Sikhs were registering their protest after pages of Guru Granth Sahib were found torn outside a gurdwara in Bargari in Faridkot district. 

The clash erupted after the police opened fire in self-defence after a mob allegedly resorted to stone pelting. No one was injured in the firing. 

The injured policemen were rushed to a hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.

More than 110 pages of the Guru Granth Sahib were found strewn near a gurdwara in Bargari yesterday.

Residents of Bargari spotted the pages when they came to the gurdwara to offer morning prayers. Bargari observed a complete bandh on Monday in protest and residents of adjoining villages also joined them when they came to know about the incident.

Meanwhile, over 250 protesting members of various Sikh organisations in Kotkapura are holding a protest over the issue. These members, who had earlier also held a protest over the issue in wee hours today, were detained by the the police, but were released after sometime.
