Amritsar, February 14

A day after three sisters were burnt to death in the congested Gali Mochian of the Gate Hakima area in Amritsar, the police are largely convinced that it was a suicide.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) JS Walia said going by the circumstantial evidence, there was a strong possibility that it was a suicide. However, we are yet to reach a conclusion as the investigation is in progress, he said.

Indu and her two sisters from Delhi Vandana and Preeti were burnt to death in a fire that broke out on the first floor of the house. Indu’s body was found in the balcony while the bodies of the other two sisters were found on a bed. They lost their mother a few months ago and were upset since then.

On Thursday, the police handed over the bodies to the family after an autopsy.

“We are working on different theories but the circumstantial evidence strongly hints at suicide. However, we are yet to ascertain the cause behind the victims taking the extreme step,” the ADCP added.
