Senior Congress leader and two-time legislator Joginder Singh Panjgrain on Tuesday joined the SAD in the presence of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Panjgrain alleged: “I had served the Congress as district president for six years. Despite having dedicated my entire life to the party, I have been ignored for a long time. The Congress has become a party of selfish leaders.”
Pangrain said the Congress had been hijacked by sycophants who were not allowing the party to work for the poor. He said he had met Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar and even apprised him how the Dalit community was facing discrimination, but no corrective action was taken.
Welcoming the former MLA with a siropa, Sukhbir said: “The Dalit leader will be given due respect in the SAD and his vast experience in social welfare will be put to good use.”
He said “Leaders like Pangrain were deserting the Congress to join the SAD because they have realised that they would not be able to go back to the people and ask for their votes again. The Congress has failed to deliver on its promises made to every section of society.”
