Ex-Dy Mayor, 19 others booked for hurting religious sentiments

AMRITSAR: Former Deputy Mayor Om Parkash Gabbar and 19 others have been booked by the rural police for allegedly hurting the sentiments of devotees coming to pay obeisance at Ram Tirath Temple here.

Former Deputy Mayor Om Parkash Gabbar and 19 others have been booked by the rural police for allegedly hurting the sentiments of devotees coming to pay obeisance at Ram Tirath Temple here.

The incident occurred here yesterday while no arrest has been made till now. Those booked include Balwant Nath and Chela Nath. A case under Sections 295, 427 and 149 of the IPC has been registered against them.

The complainant, Mahant Avtar Bawa, alleged that Gabbar along with over 20 people entered Dhuna Sahib in the shrine and started sloganeering. When they were desisted from doing so, they threw pictures of Maharishi Balmiki and parshad from a nearby shop. He said the incident had hurt the sentiments of many. — TNS
