MLA: Centre delaying land approval for corridor

CHANDIGARH: Cooperation Minister and Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Randhawa today expressed apprehension that the Centre was deliberately delaying approval to acquire land and begin construction for the Kartarpur corridor.

Chandigarh, January 14

Cooperation Minister and Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Randhawa today expressed apprehension that the Centre was deliberately delaying approval to acquire land and begin construction for the Kartarpur corridor.

Reacting to a communication between officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the National Highway Authority of India, the minister said the Centre had not even initiated the process to acquire land for the integrated check post that has to come up on the Indian side of the border.

“The land acquisition consumes time, but the ministries concerned are yet to initiate any process on ground. For acquiring land for the 4.5-km stretch from Dera Baba Nanak to the international border, the exercise to demarcate land and acquire it is yet to begin,” he added.

“There is no role of the state government in acquiring land. All state has to do is provide revenue details of the land to be acquired,” he added. — TNS
