Amritsar, April 17

Prior to announcing its candidate for the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP today opened its main election office in Amritsar and two more in Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur. The Amritsar office will monitor the proceedings of the other two offices.

Haryana’s Cabinet Minister and Lok Sabha election incharge of Punjab BJP Capt Abhimanyu and BJP state chief Shwait Malik were present during the inauguration.

“The BJP’s representative will be declared by the designated team shortly. It can be any BJP worker,” they said.

When asked about the BJP’s policy on approaching “deras” for garnering vote, Capt Abhimanyu said, “During elections, the candidates have the right to knock every house to approach the voters. Even the house with the Congress flag on its top will be no constraint for us.”

Capt Abhimanyu viewed that there was a total contrast of ideology between the BJP and the Congress.

“On one hand, the BJP intends to abort Article 370 and Article 35-A by introducing amendment in the Constitution to bring Jammu and Kashmir to the mainstream, whereas the Congress bats for preserving it to let Jammu and Kashmir a separate state,” he added. The Amritsar office will be headed by former mayor Bakshi Ram Arora, who will coordinate with the offices of Hoshiarpur and Pathankot (for Gurdaspur).
