A 35-year-old man, who suspected his wife of having extramarital relations, allegedly poisoned his two children and himself in Kotkapura town today.

While the 11-year-old son of Charanjit Singh was declared dead, his eight-year-old daughter and he himself are struggling for life at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital here.

His wife was away to her parental home at the time of the incident. Charanjit and his children were found unconscious in a room of his house situated on the Harinau Road in Kotkapura. Their neighbours shifted them to the medical college, where Deepak Singh was declared brought dead.

Jatinder Singh, SHO, Kotkapura police station, said it was a case of strong poisoning. Charanjit Singh was not in condition to record his statement. The police were waiting for the arrival of his wife. “We will conduct an inquiry before taking necessary legal action in this case,” said the SHO.

“We have come to know that there was a long matrimonial dispute between the couple and the wife mostly stayed at her parents’ home,” said Charanjit Singh’s relatives. He was doubtful about his wife’s character and this suspicion led him to take the extreme step, they alleged.
