Chandigarh, October 13

The governments of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan will ask the Union Government to give enhanced compensation to cotton growers.

Industries Minister and senior BJP leader Madan Mohan Mittal and SAD MP Prem Singh Chandumajra said today that a joint delegation of Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek more compensation for farmers of these states. Mittal said the CM lost no time in announcing Rs 8,000 per acre compensation for the affected farmers.

The ruling combine claimed it was satisfied with the outcome of the meeting between the CM and farmers. It appealed to the farmers not to “gherao” ministers on October 22.
