SANGRUR: Pardeep Kumar, the owner of the cracker godown where a blast took place on September 19, has applied for anticipatory bail at a local court even as the toll in the incident rose to six today.

Pardeep Kumar, the owner of the cracker godown where a blast took place on September 19, has applied for anticipatory bail at a local court even as the toll in the incident rose to six today.

After battling for life for three days, Avtar Singh (21) from Taranji Khera village succumbed to his injuries at the PGI. AAP legislator from Dirba Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema has announced to fight the cases of the deceased and the injured without charging any fee.

“Three days have passed and total six persons have lost their lives in the incident, but both accused are roaming free. The court has issued a notice to the police for September 25. It shows that cops are not taking the required action,” said Cheema.

Five workers, including Gurpiar Singh (24), Karmjit Singh (20), brothers Swarnjit Singh (20) and Gurjant Singh (22), and Gursewak Singh (19) were killed on the spot while Avtar Singh died today. Karmjit Singh, Gurmeet Kaur, Gurbinder Singh and Arshdeep Singh are under treatment at the Sangrur Civil Hospital. Dirba SHO Pushpinder Singh said they were conducting raids to arrest the accused.
