Abolition of Dining Car of Indians

IT is notified that on and from 25th March the running of a dining car for Indians between Delhi and Lahore on 17 Up and 18 Down passenger trains will be discontinued. The need of stringent war economy is not denied, and the Indian public is abundantly showing everywhere a keen sense of co-operation in every possible way. But it is none the less a matter for deep regret that the shears of economy should fall specially on the dining car for Indians which it took years to secure from the North Western Railway administration. Similarly the rest-house for Indians at Rawalpindi station is to be discontinued. The railways cannot be unaware of the existence of a rest-house for Europeans at the same station long before the one for Indians was sanctioned, and what time and trouble it took the Indians to secure the little 'boon' which is now being withdrawn.
