An Indian in the Australian Army

MR. Saint Nihal Singh publishes the report of an interview he had with Private Gurbachan Singh, the only Indian whom the Commonwealth Government has sent from Australia to fight for the King and Empire in Europe. Private Gurbachan Singh said the outbreak of the hostilities inspired Indians in Australia with a martial enthusiasm unlike any that they had experienced before. Many of them were officers and men who had retired from the Indian Army after fighting for the King Emperor in many campaigns, and who treasured the medals given to them them as rewards for bravery.
