  • It surpassed the previous auction record held by Picasso’s “Les Femmes d’Alger”, which sold for $179.4m in 2015
  • The recently discovered painting dates back to the year 1500 and is one of under 20 known surviving artworks by the master of Italian Renaissance
  • First commissioned by Louis XII of France, the oil painting was owned by England’s Charles I, but the artwork was presumed lost in late 18th century
