Barnala Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ghanshyam Thori today inaugurated a second Jan Aushadhi Store (JAS) at Mother Child Hospital in Barnala city. One such store is already running successfully at the Barnala Civil Hospital to provide generice medicines to patients at lower rates.
“Such stores are helping poor patients in getting medicines at lower rates. There are a few cities in the state, which have two centre and now we are proud that Barnala has got its second store like those cities,” said DC Thori after inaugurating the centre.
The DC said with constant supervision, the Barnala administration had succeeded in increasing the sale of generic medicines to Rs 5.11 lakh in the centre till December 2017 and more business was expected in the future after the opening of the second centre in the city.
“I urge all citizens to purchase medicines from these stores and if anyone pressurises them to buy costly medicines, they must lodge a complaint against him,” said the DC. ADC (Grievances) Himanshu Gupta asked local residents and those in surrounding areas to start buying medicines from these stores to save their money and promote cheaper medicines.
In July 2017, the DC had directed the Civil surgeon (CS) to prepare doctor wise monthly data of their prescription, they are writing every month. At the end of every month, prescriptions are being analysed and doctors, who prefer costly medicines not generic ones, are reprimanded. It has been observed that during August 2017 a total of 948 prescriptions were for generic medicines, 1,229 in September while till December the number jumped to 1,719 patients.
