Talwandi Sabo, March 2
The youth festival of academic year 2015-16 was inaugurated today on the premises of Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo.
Sukhraj Singh Sidhu, managing director of GKU, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Sidhu inaugurated the festival by lighting a lamp in the presence of Dr NS Malhi, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jagpal Singh, Pro Vice-Chancellor and other authorities of the university.
He said such festivals lifted the spirit of the students and they provided a vast platform where youth could show their talent in cultural activities. He advised the educationists to make the city an education hub.
Dr BS Dhaliwal, dean, academics, welcomed the guests, staff and students. Prof Sukhdevinder Singh Kaurra, public relations officer, GKU, shared the details of the festival with the media and audience.
The programme started with a ‘shabad’ followed by cultural activities such as bhangra, light vocal ‘geet gazal’, folk song, ‘kavishri’ and ‘var gayan’.
At the same time, on stage-II, poetry recitation, elocution, debate, quiz, events on classical and folk instruments were performed by the students of eight constituent colleges of GKU.
A number of stalls were organised for the students and visitors. Apart from the scheduled cultural activities, noted singers Ammy Virk and Balkar Sidhu also performed at the function.
Dr NS Malhi appreciated the efforts of the organisers and students, who are working round the clock to make the event a grand success.
Noted Punjabi writer Manpreet Tiwana, Prof Sukhwinder Singh Brar, Prof Amrinder Sandhu, Prof Jujhar Singh, Prof Veerpal Kaur, singer Balkar Sidhu delivered judgments in various cultural activities. Prof.
