Bathinda, January 24

A man was crushed under a running train on the Bathinda-Ferozepur railway line on Friday. The identity of the deceased could not be established and the case is being investigated by the police.

According to the police, the deceased was in an inebriated condition at the time of accident and both his legs suffered severe damage. After spotting an injured man near the railway track, passers-by informed a local NGO, whose members reached the spot and informed the Government Railway Police.

After the GRP personnel conducted initial investigation, NGO members took the man to a government hospital for treatment. Doctors said the man succumbed to his injuries. The police did not recover anything from the victim’s possession that could establish his identity.

According to doctors at the government hospital, the victim appeared to be in his mid-30s. The police and members of Sahara Welfare Society, an NGO, are making efforts to establish the identity of the victim. His body has been kept at a hospital for the time being.
