Rohtak, November 26
The row over the opening of a gate of the Rohtak Deputy Commissioner’s residence continues with the local lawyers putting up a police-post kiosk in front of the gate for rent.
The District Bar Association (DBA) has put up a note on the police-post kiosk, stating that it was available for rent and those interested could contact the association.
On being contacted, DBA president Lokender Singh Phougat, alias Jojo, confirmed that they had put the said notice.
“At a meeting of the association, administrative and police officers held on Saturday, it was agreed upon that the police-post kiosk would be shifted inside the premises of the DC residence, but it has not been done. Hence, we decided to put it to some good use,” he said.
Rohtak Deputy Commissioner RS Verma was not available for comments. DSP (headquarters) Gorakh Pal Rana, who was present at the said meeting with the lawyers, could also not be contacted.
Meanwhile, former Haryana Home Minister Subhash Batra, who is also a lawyer and member of the District Bar Association, stated that the lawyers should act within the legal framework to get the dispute settled amicably and not do anything which brings a bad name to their profession.
A confrontation between the District Bar Association and the Deputy Commissioner broke out recently over the opening of a back-gate of the Deputy Commissioner’s residence, which opens on the premises of the local judicial complex.
The lawyers opposed the move to open the said gate, maintaining that it opened in an area of the judicial complex where vehicles are parked and stamp-vendors and document-writers were seated.
The matter was settled at a meeting of the district administrative and police officers and representatives of lawyers. But now the lawyers are again up in the arms, accusing the district administration for not keeping its promise.
