Chandigarh, January 21
The city today witnessed the coldest January day after 2013. The maximum temperature fell to 9.4°C, which is nine degrees below normal, while it was 9.3°C on January 7, 2013.
The lowest maximum temperaturerecorded in January 2014 was 14°C and in 2015 9.9°C. In the following years, the lowest maximum temperature had remained higher than what was recorded today.
An IMD official said, “It is due to winds and fog that the day temperature has fallen so low.” The minimum temperature was recorded at 5.2°C, which is two degrees below normal. The day temperature is expected to rise over the next few days.
Though the previous forecast had predicted a rise in the maximum temperature, today’s dip has come as a surprise for weathermen.
As far as the minimum temperature is concerned, there could be a marginal rise in the teperature in the coming days.
Meanwhile, forecast has predicted clear sky with moderate to dense fog for the next three days, following which there will be partly cloudy sky.
