Handball associations fight over affiliation

CHANDIGARH:Differences have emerged once again in the two factions of the Chandigarh Volleyball Association just five days before the start of the 45th National Junior Volleyball Championship.

Chandigarh, December 14

Differences have emerged once again in the two factions of the Chandigarh Volleyball Association just five days before the start of the 45th National Junior Volleyball Championship.

Both factions, known as Chandigarh Volleyball Association, have questioned each other’s authenticity for hosting the national championship. While the group headed by Ashok Kumar claimed that the other party is not affiliated to organise the championship and is fighting a legal battle, the group headed by Kamal Sharma alleged  that the rivals are a hub of lies.

“The court has freezed one of the accounts till December 20, then how can they organise any championship. They are not affiliated with the Chandigarh Olympic Association (COA) or even with the national body,” said Anil, honorary secretary of the association headed by the Kumar group. Meanwhile, Vijaypal Singh, general secretary of the other association, refuted these allegations.

“They are habitual of creating hurdles when it comes to promotion of volleyball in the city. We are the only affiliated unit from the national federation, as directed by the court. On contrary, they are not having a single affiliated unit here in city. Even the UT Sports Department allot us all the grants. They have not organised a single championships, this year,” claimed Vijaypal.  The national championship will start from December 19. —TNS
