Chandigarh, April 29

The UT Administration in all likelihood will not impose a weekend lockdown in the city. However, the final decision will be taken at a meeting to be chaired by UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore tomorrow.

Sources said unless the Haryana Government imposed a lockdown in Panchkula, the UT would not get the desired result from the shutdown. The UT Administration is in favour of a complete lockdown in tricity and the authorities concerned are in touch with the governments of the neighbouring cities of Mohali and Panchkula.

While Mohali has already ordered imposition of weekend lockdown in the city, the Panchkula administration is yet to take a call on it.

On Wednesday, the UT Administration had extended the night curfew from 6 pm to 5 am on all days.

All Sampark centres in the city will be closed by 4 pm till further orders.

UT Adviser Manoj Parida appealed to the residents not to choke the city’s health infrastructure by inviting kith and kin from outside, needing indoor Covid treatment, as hospitals in the UT are almost full. The UT Administration is also considering to take help from former PGI Director and Punjab Health Adviser Dr KK Talwar for effective management of the pandemic in the city. — TNS
