The district administration today planted nearly 1 lakh saplings of 14 species of plants in 1,000 villages in one day. Authorities said another 1 lakh trees would be planted over a period of next one year. The plantation drive known as Saptarishi Project. It has been initiated under the ‘Ghar Ghar Hariyali’ campaign.
Former minister of state for foreign affairs, Preneet Kaur, inaugurated the project to plant 1 lakh saplings in 1,000 villages from Amampur village on the Sirhind Road on Tuesday by planting the ‘sukhchain’ saplings. She also launched the website for the initiative on which monitoring of planted saplings would be viewed online.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kumar Amit said such an initiative was being taken up for the first time in the state.
