Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat on Tuesday asked representatives of various social organisations to come forward to eradicate drugs from the country and encouraged them to tap the energy of the youth in the development of the country.

He was addressing an event organised by the Arya Samaj Kharar at Shri Ram Bhawan here on Tuesday. Leading industrialists and philanthropists, including Lalit Bansal and Subodh Gupta, were among those who were honoured by the Governor on the occasion. 

The Governor said the energy of the youth and society should be used for the welfare of the country. He said the decreasing water level in Punjab and Haryana was a matter of great concern. Natural farming could help abolish the side-effects of chemical cultivation, he said.

He also praised the role played by Swami Dayanand Saraswati in eradicating social evils from society.

Sirmour Deputy Commissioner Lalit Jain; District and Sessions Judge Rajan Gupta; Assistant Commissioner Sanjeev Sharma and newly elected judge Sumit Garg were honoured by the Governor. 

Devvrat announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh for Arya Samaj, Kharar, and Rs 1 lakh for Maharaja Ajj Sarovar, Kharar. Vishva Bandhu Arya, Vishnu Mittal, MP Arora, Naresh Singla, Tara Chand Gupta, Vikas Garg, Rajinder Arora were also present on the occasion.
