Rijul beats Yash, enters final

CHANDIGARH:Rijul Bhatia registered a 6-3 6-1 win over Yash Jindal to ease into the boys’ U-14 final in the ongoing STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament at the Chandigarh Club Complex, Sector 1, here, on Thursday.

Chandigarh, October 18 

Rijul Bhatia registered a 6-3 6-1 win over Yash Jindal to ease into the boys’ U-14 final in the ongoing STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament at the Chandigarh Club Complex, Sector 1, here, on Thursday.

In the final, Bhatia will lock horns with Namish Sharma, who downed Yashvardhan Gaur 6-4 6-1 in the semifinals.

Harmanjot stays in hunt 

In the boys’ U-16 category, Harmanjot Singh overcame Avish Verma in a see-saw encounter to set up the title clash with Gaurav Kumar.

Harmanjot won the opening set 6-3, but Verma restored parity with a 6-4 win in the second set. Harmanjot, though, regained his composure and sealed the decider 6-4 to stay in contention for the title.

Gaurav Kumar, meanwhile, had an easy semifinal outing as he dismissed Jagteswar Thind 6-0 6-0. 

Vanya, Pawandeep advance

Vanya Arora overcame Omisha Nischal in a hard-fought semifinal to set up the summit clash with Jigyasa Narsinghani. Vanya took the lead with 6-1 win in the first set, but Omisha came back into the match with a 6-4 win in the second set. Vanya, however, clinched the decider 6-2 to move into the final.    

Jigyasa continued her impressive run in the tournament as she tamed Anusha Verma 6-1 6-3 to stay in hunt for the title. 

In the girls’ U-16 semifinals, Pawandeep Kaur drubbed Catherine Bhangu 6-1 6-1, while Harnoor Sidhu beat Vaidehi Narsinghani 6-2 6-1.

  • Boys’ U-14: Rijul Bhatia bt Yash Jindal 6-3 6-1, Namish Sharma bt Yashvardhan Gaur 6-4 6-1
  • Boys’ U-16: Gaurav Kumar bt Jagteswar Thind 6-0 6-0, Harmanjot Singh bt Avish Verma 6-3 4-6 6-4
  • Girls’ U-14: Vanya Arora bt Omisha Nischal 6-1 4-6 6-2, Jigyasa Narsinghani bt Anusha Verma 6-1 6-3
  • Girls’ U-16: Pawandeep Kaur  bt Catherine Bhangu 6-1 6-1, Harnoor Sidhu bt Vaidehi Narsinghani 6-2 6-1
