Karnal, February 29
Residents of Raghunath Nagar, Ramesh Nagar, Old Ramesh Nagar, Upkar Colony and nearby areas of Karnal are facing great inconvenience owing to the delay in the commencement of the recarpeting work on a road connecting Railway Road with the Bhagwaria gas agency in the city.
Causing traffic congestion
- The foundation stone of the project was laid on February 7
- The delay in the commencement of the work has dashed residents’ hopes, leaving them disappointed and inconvenienced
- The dug-up road has become a hindrance for pedestrians and motorists as it leads to traffic congestion
Despite the road having been dug up by the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC), the recarpeting work had not yet commenced, the residents alleged.
The foundation stone of the project was laid on February 7, raising the hopes of residents of having a pothole-free road.
According to an MC official, the approximately the 1-km-long stretch would be constructed at a cost of Rs 2.22 crore.
However, the delay in the commencement of the work has dashed the residents’ hopes, leaving them disappointed and angry. The dug-up road has become a hindrance for pedestrians and motorists as it leads to traffic congestion and raises safety concerns.
The locals have urged the authorities to initiate the work and provide a timeline for its completion to ease their hardships. Many have even expressed frustration over the delay in the commencement of the project.
Raghunath Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association president Amit Ahuja said the repair of the road had been a long-pending demand. Although the KMC had approved the repair work and laid the foundation stone, the actual repair work was yet to begin. “We are not aware of the reasons for the delay,” he added. Rishipal Arya, another resident, said the KMC should ensure timely completion of the project to restore normalcy as people were facing significant challenges due to dust.
KMC XEN Monika Sharma said the drilling work had been completed while the laying of materials would commence in a couple of days.
