Karnal, May 31

Members of Muslim community at Newal village were allegedly stopped from reciting Azaan during Namaz by some people of the village late Wednesday night.

They alleged that some persons attacked them and also damaged the sound system. The situation is under control even as police force has been deployed in the village as precautionary measure.

The incident took place at around 9.15 pm on Wednesday, when some members of the Muslim community were reciting Azaan.

Naeem Khan, a local, said some youths entered in the mosque when they were reciting Azaan. When they opposed, the youth allegedly thrashed them.

"We informed the village sarpanch and police. But when the police did not come to village, we reached Kunjpura police station," he said.

Raj Kumar Ranga, Kunjpura SHO, said after getting information the police reached to village, but before their arrival the residents reached the police station.

"We have registered a case against six persons, including Bablu, Mangal, Subhash and three others, under Sections 295, 323 and 506 of the IPC," the SHO added.

SP Surinder Singh Bhoria said the situation was under control. Kunjpura SHO along with police force has been keeping a vigil in the village, he said, adding nobody would be allowed to take the law in their hands.
