Yamunanagar, February 25

An Additional Sessions Judge of Yamunanagar district has held a student guilty of the murder of his school principal. Pronouncing the verdict on Tuesday, Additional Sessions Judge (Exclusive Court for Heinous Crime against Women and Children) Payal Bansal held Shivansh guilty of the murder of the principal, Ritu Chhabra.

Deputy District Attorney Surjeet Arya said the court reserved the order on the quantum of sentence for February 28. The court, however, acquitted Shivansh’s father Ranjeet of Hamida Colony of Yamunanagar in the case today. As per the police record, Shivansh (18), a Class XII student of Swami Vivekanand Public School, Thapar Colony, Yamunanagar, had allegedly shot dead Chhabra on January 20, 2018.

During interrogation, the student disclosed that he would get miffed by the principal when she objected to his coming to school late or not completing his home work.

The student fired four shots at Chhabra with his father’s licensed .32 bore revolver and critically injured her. On the complaint of the husband of the deceased, Rajesh Chhabra of Yamunanagar, the student was booked under Section 302 of the IPC and Arms Act. His father Ranjeet was also made an accused in the case as his licensed revolver was used in the murder.

The principal was sitting in her office when the student entered her office and opened fire at her. The student was overpowered by the people outside the school when he tried to run away and was handed over to the police.
