Chamba, March 6
A voter awareness event was organised for students and teachers of various undergraduate and post graduate courses at the old campus of Government Postgraduate College, Chamba, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, SVEEP Nodal Officer (Chamba Assembly segment) Avinash Pal said voter awareness events were being organised across the state in the view of upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The functioning of EVM and VVPAT systems was explained to the students, who were administered an oath to vote impartially and fearlessly during, he added.
Students were educated about the importance of voting and provided information regarding the correction of errors in voter IDs, registration of votes online using voter helplines and the VSP portal.
The Nodal Officer said an informed voter was essential for a strong democracy as the power to choose the government was in the hands of the voters.
“Therefore, it is the responsibility of the voters to be aware of their rights and duties,” he added.
Students were also encouraged to sign a pledge titled ‘My Vote, My Strength’ to inspire impartial, fearless, and pressure-free voting, and to motivate others to vote.
The students participated in posters making and slogan writing events. Music teacher Gulshan Pal composed a voter awareness song — titled ‘Apni Mitti Hakka Dindi, Chahe Je Mazboori Hai, Chambe Ri Tarkki Tai Har Ek Vote Zaroori Hai’— in an effort to motivate everyone to participate neutrally and positively in the electoral process.
