Jalandhar, July 16
Jalandhar Officiating Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh today exhorted residents of the district to desist from carrying polythene bags and thermocol items to the Mata Chintpurni shrine during the upcoming ‘Sawan Ashtami’ fair, which will be held from August 1 to August 9.
The Deputy Commissioner, who participated in the meeting to finalise the arrangements for the fair held at ‘Bharwain’ with Deputy Commissioner, Una, Sandeep Kumar and other officials, said: “A large number of devotees from Punjab, particularly from Jalandhar, pay obeisance at the shrine for which Una administration has already made elaborate arrangements.”
Kulwant Singh said: “The Himachal Pradesh government has banned the polythene bags and thermocol items in the state, so the devotees should avoid carrying the banned material, adding that this material is hazardous for human health as well as the environment.”
He said: “In order to curb the noise pollution, the Himachal Pradesh government has also banned the use of loudspeakers and DJs during the fair”.
He appealed the people to refrain from plying overloaded vehicles to the shrine.
“Due to the overloading of vehicles there is a possibility of mishap in the hilly terrain. The Una administration has already made it clear that they will not allow any overloaded vehicle to ply and stern action be taken against the violators,” added Kulwant Singh.
