JALANDHAR: Around 12,000 employees of the police and civil administration have been deployed at the 1,206 polling booths in the district to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections.

Around 12,000 employees of the police and civil administration have been deployed at the 1,206 polling booths in the district to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections.

Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha and Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal said for these elections, around 7,800 employees had been deputed from the civil administration while 4,200 had been deployed by the Police Department.

Expressing satisfaction on the entire arrangements for the polls, they said the district administration would conduct the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

The officials inspected Raizada Hansraj Stadium where polling officials had been distributing material for conducting the polls.

The top officers had detailed interactions with the polling staff and the police officials on duty. They asked the staff to discharge their duties with dedication and sincerity to ensure that the entire poll process was completed in a transparent manner. The officers inspected the process of distribution of the material among the polling staff.

During the inspection, they minutely looked into all arrangements involving the election process and asked the polling staff to ensure that people were able to exercise their franchise in a fair manner.

The officers said nobody would be allowed to disturb the poll process during the elections, adding that if any person tries to create disruption in the elections, he or she would be dealt with sternly as per law.

4 lakh voters to exercise their franchise in Nawanshahr

Nawanshahr: Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer Vinay Bublani said today that the arrangements to ensure free and fair elections for the nine zones of the zila parishad and the 88 zones of the panchayat samiti on September 19 in the district had been completed. The main focus would be to keep the law and order intact. Strict action would be taken if the poll process was interrupted, the DC said.

As many as 4,00,000 voters will exercise their franchise in Nawanshahr district.

As many as 636 polling booths, including 109 for Aur, 139 for Banga, 148 for Nawanshahr, 151 for Balachaur and 89 for Saroya blocks, have been set up to facilitate voting for 213 block samiti and 27 zila parishad elections.

The counting of votes would be done at the block headquarters - Nawanshahr, Banga, Balachaur, Aur and Saroya — on September 22. After completion of the poling on Wednesday, ballot boxes would be kept secured accordingly in strong rooms set up for the purpose, the DC added.
