The police have booked five unidentified persons under Sections 323, 341, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC on the complaint lodged by Nirmal Sood, a resident of Nirmal Nagar, Dugri.

The complainant, who runs an electrical goods shop in Guru Ram Das Market, said while he and his son were sitting at the shop on Wednesday, five unknown car-borne persons armed with sticks, a sword and a baseball bat hit the counter first with the bat and then hit a customer, Sandeep Kumar, on the head twice.

The Maruti Swift car that the suspects were travelling in had its front and rear registration number plates covered with tape. “When we raised the alarm, the assailants fled from the spot while threatening them with dire consequences,” he said.

In another case of assault, the police have booked five persons, identified as Karan Sharma, Vijay Kumar (both residents of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar), Happy, Kali (both residents of Jasdev Nagar), and Raj Kumar under various sections of the IPC on the complaint of Deepak Kumar of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.

The complainant said he had gone to the new petrol pump in Dugri to call his brother Abhishek in the evening when the suspects, who were present there, attacked him with rods.

“When my brother tried to intervene, he was also beaten up and the suspects managed to escape after threatening both of us,” he said.

Deepak, who was critically injured, was admitted to a city hospital where he was undergoing treatment. — OC
