Ludhiana, June 14

Major fire broke out in a multi-storey hosiery unit in Daresi area of Ludhiana on Tuesday morning causing loss worth several lakhs. The fire broke out at around 7.15 am and the factory was close when incident occurred.

As the hosiery unit, Vijay Apparel, was situated in a narrow lane, fire fighters had to face a huge challenge to douse the flame.

As per the information, huge winter stock was manufactured and stored in the hosiery. Even the expensive machinery lying in the unit has also been gutted.

Panic spread among the adjoining building owners as the affected building is over 90 years old. It is owned by Mohan Lal Trust and Vidya Parchar Trust and it has given it on rent to two hosiery owners.

Fortunately another hosiery, Bhavesh Yarns, which is also located on the ground floor of the building did not suffer any damage.
