The Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC) has come up with an android- based mobile application named “e-Pehal” for monitoring tree plantation.
The main purpose of the PRSC behind developing this app is to monitor the saplings planted. Trees are planted during the drives or during functions and this app would help the users to know the actual condition of trees, whether they are growing or not.
In addition to this, one can also identify the vacant space and let the Department know about it.
Dr Brijendra Pateriya, Director, PRSC said, “User can select the district, block and village and mark the coordinates of plantation. The app will automatically fetch the current location and user can capture the image of plants.”
Dr Anil Sood, head of agro-ecosystems at the PRSC further added that the app is available in both English and Punjabi language.
He said, “Trees will play a very important role and we need to plant more and more trees due to global warming. This app can prove beneficial as it will monitor the green area, its maintenance and detect area which can be brought under plantation.”
