Ludhiana, January 20

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora reviewed the upgrade plan for the district hospital here on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik, Civil Surgeon Dr Jasbir Singh Aulakh, ADC (Rural Development) Anmol Dhaliwal and SMOs Dr Mandeep Kaur Sidhu and Dr Deepika Goyal — besides representatives from healthcare and infrastructure companies TR Lifesciences and Crescentia India, roped in to conduct a survey of the existing facilities and chalk out an upgrade plan — were present at the meeting to share their insights from medical and infrastructure perspectives.

The district hospital in Ludhiana is a lifeline for lakhs in the region, especially the underprivileged. It is important to upgrade the facilities at the hospital to meet the growing needs of the community. I am confident that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, we will be able to transform the Civil Hospital into a world-class medical facility. SANJEEV ARORA, RAJYA SABHA MP

During the meeting, Arora discussed the need to upgrade the district hospital, one of the busiest healthcare facilities in Punjab. He stressed the importance of improving medical facilities, infrastructure, and hygiene standards at the hospital.

Representatives from TR Lifesciences, headed by Rakesh Daggar, and Crescentia India, headed by Mohit, made recommendations to improve the hospital facilities, based on their assessment.

They suggested measures such as upgrading medical equipment, expanding bed capacity and improving sanitation facilities.

Arora appreciated the suggestions made by the healthcare and infrastructure experts and directed the Civil Surgeon to prepare a detailed plan for the upgrade of the hospital. He assured them of his full support in implementing the plan.

Arora said the meeting was a positive step towards improving the healthcare facilities in Ludhiana. He hoped that the development plan will be implemented soon so that the people of Ludhiana can benefit from better healthcare services.

MP ADOPTED 3 HOSPITALS

In a major philanthropic move, Arora has adopted three district hospitals (DHs) for upgrade.

The parliamentarian has undertaken the task to overhaul the health facilities at Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Sangrur. The project would entail revamp of civil works and upgrade of health facilities to bring them at par with the private hospitals.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Chandigarh recently. Besides Arora, Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh and top functionaries of the Health Department attended the meeting.

Two separate surveys to assess the present situation and plan the required changes with respect to civil and health facilities have been initiated and the consultants hired for the job were expected to submit their reports shortly, following which the upgrade work would begin.

Arora disclosed that the surveys would report the present condition of buildings and other civil infrastructure and health facilities available at these three district hospitals, besides recommending the civil works and medical services needed to upgrade them.

He said the budget estimates for the upgrade would be presented in the surveys and funds would be made available accordingly through corporate social responsibility, Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme, and other sources.

“Our aim is to develop these three district hospitals as model health facilities in the state and take up the similar revamp and upgradation of the remaining hospitals in the next phase,” the MP said, assuring that upgradation work would be completed within a year.

Presently, Ludhiana district hospital has a capacity of 300 beds with 290 functional beds, while Hoshiarpur and Sangrur were 200 and 100 bed facilities, respectively.
