Ludhiana, June 21

Covid-19 cases continue to be reported from the three containment zones and as many micro containment zones in the city. The containment zones include Chowni Mohalla, Prem Nagar and the area comprising Islam Ganj, Sensi Mohalla and Habib Gan.

As many as 42 cases have been reported from Chowni Mohalla, 67 from Prem Nagar, of which 10 were reported today, and 62 from the zone comprising Islam Ganj, Sensi Mohalla and Habib Ganj, of which four were reported today.

The micro containment zone of New Janta Nagar has reported 10 cases, New Model Town six cases and Bhamian Road has reported nine cases so far. A micro containment zone is created when five or more cases are reported.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said the department had been sensitising people to precautionary measures but still, it had been observed that most people didn’t follow the guidelines.

“Step out of the house only if necessary as precaution is better than cure. No gatherings should be held. Everyone should maintain a distance of 2 metre even if two persons are talking to each other. Social distancing should be followed strictly,” he said.

The Civil Surgeon said the mask was an important tool to ward off the virus. “People should understand that they are wearing masks for their own safety and not for the fear of fine. Hanging a mask in the neck and wearing it after seeing a policeman will not save them from infection. People should understand and take it as their responsibility and wear masks properly while stepping out of their houses,” said Dr Bagga.
