Cheered by massive crowd, Priyanka Gandhi, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee, stood atop a vehicle as she waved to people. People were moving along the vehicle while some were standing atop their houses and buildings. Flowers were showered on the vehicle in which Priyanka was campaigning.

Congress candidate from Ludhiana East Sanjeev Talwar and president of the District Congress Committee Ashwani Sharma were sitting in front, flanked by senior Congress leaders from Ludhiana, Ravneet Bittu, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Rakesh Pandey and Surinder Dawar, while in the centre was Priyanka Gandhi cheering and waving to the crowd. The roadshow started from the Ludhiana Central constituency and culminated in the Ludhiana East Constituency.

While addressing the crowd, Priyanka addressed Modi and Kejriwal as ‘bade miyan and chhote miyan’, respectively. “It is shameful that bade miyan (Modi) has labelled farmers as militants, while chhote miyan (Kejriwal) has already shown his mentality towards Punjab. The target of both of them is to rule Punjab and disturb the peaceful environment of Punjab for their political gains. Punjab can be safe and peaceful only in the hands of the Congress. People of Punjab should give chance to Charanjit Singh Channi so that he is able to complete the pending works for the development of Punjab which he was unable to do in 111 days of his rule,” said Gandhi.

A large number of women were also present on the occasion who were seen raising slogans of ‘Priyanka Gandhi zindabad’. Priyanka was also seen throwing flowers on the crowd. The road on which the roadshow started was filled with Tri-coloured balloons and flags of the Congress. Balloons were released in the sky, making the sky looking Tri-coloured too.

Although a section of migrant population burnt an effigy of the CM before the start of the roadshow, but migrants in large number were also present during the roadshow, carrying flags of the Congress party in their hands.

After the roadshow, Priyanka also went to Sant Ravidas Mandir to pay obeisance. Addressing the devotees, she congratulated them on the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, which was on Wednesday.

“I do not find it appropriate that I should address from here during the time of elections. I just want to congratulate everyone on the Ravidas Jayanti and the Gurbani of Ravidas ji is in everybody’s heart. Sant Ravidas ji’s Gurbani teaches us to treat everyone equal, to be truthful, and follow the path of universal brotherhood and it is the same what our Constitution tells us to do,” said Gandhi.

Poster war

Poster war was seen among the Ludhiana Congress candidates. Priyanka Gandhi visited Ludhiana Central and East constituencies and posters of Ludhiana East nominee Sanjeev Talwar were there on the vehicle on which Priyanka was to go. Supporters of Ludhiana Central constituency nominee Surinder Dawar came and started fixing Dawar’s posters. Talwar also reached the spot and stopped them from doing so. Though on one side they had fixed Dawar’s poster but Talwar prevented them from pasting them on the other side.

Channi’s Effigy burnt

Migrants hold flags during the roadshow of Priyanka.

Perturbed over Charanjit Singh Channi’s comments, migrants burnt the effigy of Channi at the Basti Jodhewal chowk ahead of Priyanka Gandhi’s road show here. Speaking on the occasion one of the migrant workers said Channi has hurt the sentiments of thousands of people while addressing a roadshow in Ropar. “During the rally he said he won’t let UP, Bihar ke bhaiye to enter Punjab and rule the state. Besides him Priyanka Gandhi was standing and laughing and clapping,” rued a migrant.
