Ludhiana, December 9
People suffer as the staff at the offices of the Department of Revenue and Deputy Commissioner have been on strike for over two weeks. The visitors are forced to return without getting their works done at these offices.
The employees, associated with the Revenue Officers Association, Punjab, Revenue Kanugo Association, Revenue Patwari Union and Deputy Commissioner Office Employees Union, have been on continuous strike to mark their protest against the arrest of Naib Tehsildar Sandeep Kumar and registry clerk Manjit Singh in Hoshiarpur district.
The Revenue Department officers’ association had later announced to go on mass leave from December 8 for an indefinite period. Thus, the work at the offices under the Revenue Department and Deputy Commissioner office has been badly hit.
A visitor at the Revenue Department office in Ludhiana said, “My plot registry work is not being done as the employees are on strike. I have been making repeated rounds to the office for the past for more than a week. I don’t know when the strike will be over.” The situation is similar at the offices under the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana. A member of the DC Office Employees Union, Ludhiana, said they are on strike and no work is being done by the staff at present.
Daljeet Singh Grewal, AAP leader, said, “People are forced to suffer as no property registration work is being done at the offices of the Revenue Department. The government must resolve the matter so that the people do not suffer anymore.”
Members of the Revenue Officers Association alleged that the two officials were implicated in a false case without any fault of theirs. They are demanding an immediate inquiry and cancellation of the FIR that was registered against the two officials.
Gurdev Singh of the Punjab Revenue Officers Association said they will hold a rally and protest march to the CM residence on Friday.
