Ludhiana, January 18

After almost three weeks, the Ludhiana police arrested the suspect who had raped and killed a four-year-old girl at Daba. He was arrested from Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh (UP).

The suspect was identified as Sonu Singh, a native of UP.

Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) JS Teja, ADCP Suhail Qasim Mir, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sandeep Wadhera and Daba SHO Kulbir Singh addressed a press conference regarding the matter.

JCP Teja said on December 28, 2023, the suspect had taken a girl child in the room of his cousin where he raped her and later strangled her to death. Afterwards, he put the body in a bed box. After committing the crime, he had boarded a train from the Ludhiana railway station and went to Haridwar.

From Haridwar, he went to Rishikesh and after spending a few days there, the suspect went to Kanpur in UP on January 16. From Kanpur, he boarded a bus and reached some village in Fatehpur to meet his friend Mayank Singh.

The JCP said after receiving a tip-off about the whereabouts of the suspect, a police team of Ludhiana conducted a raid in UP and nabbed him on January 17.

Notably, kin of the victim had also held a protest against the police for failing to arrest the suspect. The police had also announced a cash reward for those who help the police in nabbing the suspect. The police said a cash reward will be given to the informant.
