Mandi Ahmedgarh, Feb 11
The administration has completed the preparations for smooth conduct of the three-day ‘Rural Olympics’, to be organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Archaeology and Museums of the Punjab Government from Monday.
The organisers say they have introduced novelty to the event, which normally showcased track events and field games. While renowned Punjabi singers will entertain the audience in the evenings, special stalls have been put up to display the cultural heritage of the state and artefacts prepared by self-help groups.
Punjabi singers Gurlez Akhtar and Kulwinder Kailey will enliven the atmosphere on Monday evening.
Gill MLA Jeevan Singh Sangowal and Ludhiana DC Sakshi Sawhney will inaugurate the event and Cabinet Minister for Tourism and Cultural Affairs Anmol Gagan Mann will be the chief guest on the concluding day.
Meanwhile, office-bearers of the Grewal Sports Association, led by secretary Paramjit Singh Grewal and vice president Ranjit Singh Mangat, have appreciated the initiative taken by the Punjab Government to perpetuate the rural sports fair that started way back in 1933. Saying that the Grewal Sports Association had organised the 82nd chapter of the event in 1988, the office-bearers urged the government to treat the event as the 83rd chapter of mini-Olympics.
