Ludhiana: The Division 5 police have nabbed several persons on the charge of gambling and recovered Rs 3.45 lakh from the spot. They have been identified as Rajan of Prem Nagar, Pradeep Kumar of Malli Mohalla, Raman Kumar of New Aman Nagar, Sagar of Railway Colony, Sahil of Joshi Nagar, Rooplal of Jawahar Nagar, Sanjiv Kumar of Chawni Mohalla, Raman Kumar of Ghumar Mandi, Chand Kumar of Salem Tabri, Joginder Kumar of Ghumar Mandi and Satvir Singh of Bharat Nagar. They were gambling on the first floor of an office near Bharat Nagar Chowk. TNS

Suicide: Man, son booked

Ludhiana: The police have booked Brijpal and his son Jatin for abetting the suicide by Des Raj (25) reported on Saturday. The police have booked the two on the basis of a suicide note left by the deceased. Des Raj's relatives had alleged that he had an affair with Brijpal's daughter. The girl's brother had told Des Raj to stay away from his sister or else he would face the consequences. The suspects are yet to be arrested. TNS

Couple booked for fraud

Ludhiana: The Ladhowal police have booked Swaran Singh and his wife, both residents of Noorpur Bet, on the charge of committing a fraud of Rs 8.50 lakh on the pretext of arranging a job for two youths in the Indian Army. They had allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh and the complainants paid them Rs 8.50 lakh as advance. But the suspects failed to do the needful and later refused to return the money. The police have launched further investigation. TNS
