Successful reimplantation of amputated thumb



A team, led by Dr Pinki Pargal working at the CMC Hospital, Ludhiana, as professor plastic surgery, treated a 29-year-old male patient, who faced an assault leading to the total amputation of his left thumb and multiple other sharp injuries. He was taken up for digital reimplant procedure by the treating doctor. His thumb was reimplanted after a surgery lasting six hours. After the procedure of reimplant, his thumb was well vascularised and the patient is doing well.

Webinar on impact of Covid-19

The department of community health nursing of the DMCH College of Nursing at Malakpur in Ludhiana organised a webinar on “Facts and impact of Covid-19’ on Thursday. The webinar started with the inauguration ceremony. Overview about facts and impact of Covid-19 was given by Dr Shama Lohumi, principal, Shivalik institute of Nursing, Shimla, followed by sessions on psychological impact of Covid-19 and lockdown on general population by Dr Manpreet Kaur, vice-principal. As many as 150 nursing professionals attended the webinar.

Fibroids removed by open surgery

Fibroids are one of the major causes of infertility in women. 40-50 percent of women have fibroids problem. Richa Batra (name changed), 24, from the city was facing primary infertility for the past two years but she was not aware that fibroids were preventing her from getting pregnant. She came to the Ludhiana Centre of Indira IVF Hospital to get treatment for her infertility. IVF expert Dr Bakul Kapoor said: “We decided to remove the fibroids by open surgery (open myomectomy). Only 10-12 fibroids were visible in the MRI but 25 different-sized fibroids were removed by surgery, which lasted about 90 minutes. — TNS
