Ludhiana: The Dugri police have registered an abetment to suicide case against a man after his wife committed suicide by jumping from the rooftop of her house. The accused has been identified as Harpreet Singh of Urban Estate, Dugri. The victim’s father, Jasvir Singh, said his daughter was married to Harpreet in 2001. After marriage, she gave birth to a son and a daughter. “For the past few years, my son-in-law had been torturing my daughter and he was not even giving her required expenses. Two years ago, my daughter had attempted to commit suicide but she was saved. I had been requesting my

son-in-law to not torture my daughter but he didn’t budge and continued the same,” alleged the victim’s father. On the night of August 10, my daughter jumped from the rooftop of her in-laws’ house and was undergoing treatment at a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, the victim’s father added. Investigating officer ASI Jaswinder Singh said a case of abetment to suicide was registered against the accused and raids were being conducted to arrest him. TNS
