Now, shop from 11 am to 3 pm in Chandigarh

The UT Administration has decided to reduce the hours for opening of shops selling essential items to four hours in the city till further orders. From Monday, these shops will remain open from 11 am to 3 pm.

The shops remained open from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday after various measures of the Administration to provide essential items did not click with residents.

Residents can come on foot and purchase items by following the social distancing norms. Ration can be ordered and supplied through food delivery boys. The payment can be made online. Food delivery boys will be fully sanitised and will follow social distancing norms.

The Administration has decided that all schools, including private schools, will reschedule the last date for depositing the fee for the 2020-21 session. One-month time will be given to the parents after the reopening of schools to deposit the fee.

It has also been decided that the Administration will follow the Punjab Service Rules in respect of the retirement age.

Food security allowance

As per the instructions of the MHRD, 55,000 eligible students from Classes 1 to 8 of government schools will get their food security allowance through DBT for 10 working days of March. This allowance per student is Rs 47.30 for primary and Rs 70.85 for upper primary. The UT Administration has sanctioned Rs 31.78 lakh for this purpose.

‘It’s a good Move’

Dr Anish Garg, chief spokesperson, Chandigarh Residents’ Association Welfare Federation, said: “It is a good move as opening shops the entire day will invite more risk of spreading of virus. If five persons go to different shops from one family, how will it be checked?” Ramanjit Singh, a resident, said: “Lockdown/curfew is for our own safety. Even if we face some issues, we should cooperate.”

Shelter home set up in Maloya for migrants

The UT Administration has set up a shelter home at the Community Centre, Maloya, for migrant labourers. The date for stay in night shelters, which were created for winter care, has been extended. These can be used by homeless people. Food will be arranged for them.

Reports of three persons awaited

Chandigarh: Reports of three persons, who were in direct contact with the eighth Covid-19 patient, are still awaited. Two male residents of Chandigarh, both 23 years, were sampled at the GMCH-32 for testing. They are admitted to an isolation ward. A 40-year-old resident of Sector 30 (mother of the eighth Covid patient) is admitted to an isolation ward of the GMCH-32. Her samples were taken on Sunday.

No fresh Covid-19 case in Mohali

Mohali: No fresh Covid case was reported from Mohali district as all three samples sent for testing were reported to be negative. Confirming the same, Civil Surgeon Dr Manjit Singh said they had sent three samples for testing to the PGI, Chandigarh, the results of which were found to be negative. Dr Singh said till date, six positive Covid-19 cases had been reported from the district. All patients were fine.

‘Chandigarh Fights Corona Fund’ set up

A “Chandigarh Fights Corona Fund” has been setup to fight Covid-19 in the city. Any person who intends to contribute can deposit money either through cheque or online banking in the bank account of Indian Red Cross Society, Chandigarh.
