Fatehgarh Sahib, July 15
A large number of workers of the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) today staged a protest against the Centre for imposing a ban on the songs of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and Kanwar Grewal on YouTube. They termed the ban as an attack on the freedom of speech.
Addressing the media, Jagdeep Singh Cheema, district president, SAD; and Sarbjit Singh Jhinjer, district president, YAD, said Sidhu Moosewala’s song highlighted how injustice was being done with the state on the release of water into the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal and that Punjab did not have any surplus water.
Similarly, Kanwar Grewal spoke about the release of all those Sikh prisoners who had completed their sentence.
The workers submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding an immediate rollback of the ban.
