Fatehgarh Sahib, March 3

Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, former district Congress committee president Subhash Sood today resigned from the primary membership of the party alleging that there is no respect for the senior Congress leaders and that the party failed to introspect in spite of repeated defeats.

Addressing the mediapersons here today, flanked by his family members and friends, he said that he joined Congress in 1979 and remained active in the party and with a heavy heart he is resigning from the party. He alleged that at present, there is no discipline and respect for the senior leaders and only sycophants are facilitated, which forced various senior leaders to sit at home or quit the party. He said various other leaders will also desert the party in coming days. When asked about joining some other party, he said he will take the decision after consulting his supporters.

Gurpreet Singh GP, president district Congress committee said it is unfortunate that a senior leader has resigned from the party by levelling allegations of being ignored by the party. He said that during the Congress-led government, he was made district president of the party, director of PRTC and the PPCC president made him co-ordinator of Rajpura area during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. His daughter-in-law remained member of Child Welfare Council (CWC). He said when the party is facing challenges, he deserted it by levelling false allegations. He said all those whom he claimed have also resigned from the party are not even members of the party. GP said if he had any grudge with any local leader, he should have sorted it out by informing PPCC president Raja Warring as he remained in touch with him.

Sources said he was in touch with state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar. The district BJP president Didar Singh Bhatti, on Jakhar’s direction, had visited his house to offer him party membership.
