Jalandhar, October 31
After having donned the goalkeeper’s mantle at a stadium in Mohali, CM Charanjit Singh Channi today played a goalie to his Cabinet colleague Pargat Singh during the final match of the Surjit Hockey Tournament here.
The CM’s Jalandhar visit today was marked by unprecedented opposition from various quarters and diversions at several routes as unemployed teachers and farmers (demanding end to DAP hoarding and availability at fair price) held protests.
On a whirlwind tour of the district, Channi first paid obeisance at Devi Talab Mandir and then visited several MLAs, MPs and party leaders. He announced GST waiver on langar at the temple.
The match was played at his final stopover — the Katoch stadium. Donning the orange uniform of a goalkeeper, Channi was passed the ball by his Cabinet colleague Pargat Singh, who was dressed in a yellow jersey. Members of the Tokyo Olympics’ Bronze winning team — Mandeep Singh, Harmanpreet and Rupinder Pal — also played hitters to the CM. He defended three out of five balls from Pargat.
