Mandi Ahmedgarh, Nov 13

The administration has taken stern action against farmers for violating directions of the Supreme Court on stubble burning.

However, those adopting alternative modes of disposal of stubble and agricultural waste are being greeted and thanked by senior functionaries led by Ahmedgarh and Malerkotla SDM Vikramjit Singh Panthey.

Panthey said Kulvir Singh, Ajmer Singh and Sarabjit Singh, lambardars at Narike, Ranvan and Dhalerkalan villages, respectively, had been suspended by Sangrur Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori today. A case was also registered against sarpanch Surat Singh of Maholi Kalan village.

“Having received information about illegal activity of farm leaders who were supposed to persuade others not to burn stubble, we have recommended immediate action against them,” he said. Investigations revealed that the administration had marked red entries in revenue record of 202 farmers and a total fine of Rs 7,05,000 was imposed on erring farmers of Ahmedgarh and Malerkotla subdivisions.

Meanwhile, officials concerned have been advised to be cautious in submitting reports about incidents of fire suggested by satellite links as 329 of 700 links were found to abortive as no fire was found at the fields pointed out by these links.
