Chandigarh, November 17

A day after the Punjab Cabinet authorised CM Charanjit Singh Channi to select the new Advocate General (AG), the party leadership is learnt to have taken PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on board over the matter.

As the party wants the PCC president to focus on the 2022 Assembly elections, Punjab affairs incharge Harish Chaudhary and CM Channi have reportedly informed Sidhu about the new AG.

The CM is learnt to have cleared the file for appointment of the new AG on Wednesday before sending to the Governor for approval.

Though there is no formal announcement on the name of AG, It is learnt from the reliable sources that the name of DS Patwalia had been approved. The PCC chief had been pushing for the name of Patwalia, before APS Deol was announced. However, Deol resigned after Sidhu’s exerted pressure on the government.

“If Patwalia is appointed AG, it means PCC president has his way,” said a party leader. Others in the AG race are Anmol Rattan Sidhu, Sanjay Kaushal and Anu Chatrath.
