What are the key achievements of your school in the past year?

Achievements demonstrate one’s success. I am feeling happy to share that in the academic session 2020-21, one of our students, Aryan Dharbial, acquired the merit certificate for outstanding academic performance in Class X with fifth position at the national-level CBSE board examination.

Vision for students

We believe that a happy child is a successful one. We promise to provide positive and stimulating environment for children to learn, where all are valued. We seek to build global citizen — ones who are amply armed with scholastic and co-scholastic skills imparted with modern technology and experiential learning. Moreover, we focus on holistic development. We prioritise holistic development of students by fostering critical thinking, creativity and communication skills.

Handholding initiatives for underachievers

As an educator, we must be ready and able to work with different type of students and meet their specific needs. Nothing else to say more, our school is working on the students who are below average with positivity by providing them opportunity to work best independently. We are also giving them a choice pertaining what they are learning. They are facing challenging things which they were not used to do earlier. We foster our students’ love for learning. We engage them in multiple ways to apply and use a variety of teaching methods, strategies, visuals and teaching aids in order to catch the attention of and engage a variety of learners.

The same student had also secured gold medal in the All India Science Olympiad and got a chance to have a visit of NASA with his parents. Last year (2023), we also had a district topper.

Apart from this, many students of the school have qualified NEET with high ranks.

For this, we created the policy by getting teachers, parents and students all on the same page. We did it with a lot of hard work, and meetings with parents regularly.

Moreover, we are very much committed to establish a new discipline programme that would be firm yet fair to all students and staff.

How are the ‘lessons’ of Covid time online teaching being incorporated in the normal offline mode now?

We can’t deny the fact that the online medium of education in the country had affected and exacerbated the existing inequalities in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. We were calm and caring, positive and inclusion of effective time management was the cherry on the cake which helped us to compensate the loss during the Covid pandemic.

What is the teacher-taught ratio in your school?

The student-teacher ratio is an essential aspect of a school’s educational programme. When teachers work with fewer students, the more closely they will be able to adapt their teaching to specific learning styles. For kindergarten students, we are following the student-teacher ratio of 25:1, at primary level 30:1 and at the upper primary and secondary level, it is 35:1.

NEP has set new goals for school education. How far have you progressed in its implementation?

To proper implementation of the NEP 2020, our school is focusing on early childhood care and education, foundational literacy and numeracy, and curriculum and pedagogy. We have a positive approach regarding learner-centric education and have tried our best to inculcate inclusive educational structure and culture in our school education system through infrastructural support by making corresponding changes in curriculum. The school has adopted 5+3+3+4 model along with changes in curriculum for the holistic development of learners. Professional development for teachers is important for the success of students as well. It helps teachers to stay connected with best current practices and technology which allow them to understand their students’ needs better. So teachers of our school attend Capacity Building Programme (CBP) organized by the DAV organisation twice in a year. These programmes provide innovative ideas on teaching strategies for engaging students with different learning styles and introducing new technology to the classroom. Updated textbooks and learning materials are necessary to keep the house up to date, with modern amenities and improvement, to make it liveable and ensure the safety and comfort of its occupants.

What are the vocational or skill-building opportunities offered to students?

Encouraging students to participate in industry-specific competitions or challenges is a great way to prepare them for a vocational or technical career. So, our school is much committed to make students independent by introducing vocational education in academic curriculum which allow students to secure well-paying jobs in a shorter timeframe. Through these classes, the students are not only gaining experience, skills and knowledge ideal to launch a career but they are also opening up additional opportunities as well.
